Delegating Space for a Small Living Room

When planning a design for a living room that is smaller in size, a special focus needs to be placed on making the most out of limited space and highlighting the room’s design through the use of color.

The following facts should be taken into consideration for your remodeling endeavors:

1: The proportions of the room. Several little chairs and a love seat will definitely not make your living space seem any bigger than it really is. This kind of seating arrangement will actually lend an displeasing atmosphere to the room. Several upholstered furniture pieces with low arms and backs would be a better, more comfortable idea overall. Tables with storage drawers and cubbyholes will both incorporate a sense of weight while regulating clutter, all without taking up too much space.

Furniture Placement. Seating should be as compact as possible. A U-shaped seating arrangement works well, especially when you are entertaining. The back of your couch should be positioned against a wall, with two upholstered chairs that face each other on either side of it. You can rotate the chairs for television viewing. In doing so, this organizes both the direction of traffic and perceived space, thus enabling your living space to take on the duty of entertaining and television viewing.

Choosing accessories effectively. Fittings should be used frugally while illuminating the room with composition and color. Use large pots, a colorful painting or two, as well as cushions piled in a corner on the floor to accentuate the room with some lively colors and textures. If you have a special collection of items, you should store them in a corner cabinet or a wall alcove.

Color Schemes A small living room can be brightened considerably by adding bold colors to walls and fabrics. Highlight any special architectural details in your home such as an arched entryway for example. The best way to do this is to paint the inner portion of the arch with a different color than that found on the surrounding walls. Colorful window treatments on the windows can be used if you would rather have light colored walls. Or you could paint one wall in a darker color. Brighter colors can be used in the textiles to anchor the wall color if it has a neutral hue.

The Ideal Lighting for a Small Room The purpose of lighting is to highlight the different shades and items of visual interest in the room. Place tall table lamps on end tables that are positioned on either side of the couch. You could use floor lamps that imitate the hue and texture of your table lamps on all opposite sides. This allows the room to be filled with light while not being too bright. Make sure the the lamps are all uniform in height so that there is an even amount of lighting throughout the room and for visual continuity.

#6. How to use flooring appropriately. The entire space can be brought together by adding the right area rug. Pick out a spot in your room where the rug will have enough space to “uphold” the seating arrangement as a whole. This allows for definition of the seating area and will also create a feeling of having additional room existing outside of the seating area.
