Matchstick Shades Are An Affordable Solution

Submitted by admin on March 12, 2011 – 8:39 amNo Comment

Window shades made from rounded, horizontally placed bamboo are called Matchstick shades. For the most part the shades feature uniformly rounded bamboo that provides a close fit keeping the sunshine out. Some off brand shades are made with irregular cut strips of the bamboo that do not give as tight fit. These shades are not opened and closed by separating the bamboo strips but roll up using a string and pulley method. Their durability makes them great sun blockers on porches.

Invented in the 1960s, matchstick shades offer privacy in the winter, and shade in the summer, for a reasonable price. Obviously, they are not made from matchsticks, but rather a sturdy bamboo material. Dubbed matchstick shades due to their resemblance to a real matchstick, they hold up well under a variety of circumstances.

Matchstick shades made using bamboo materials offer the same look and feel of the woven wood shades but at a fraction of price. They are both sturdy and durable so they hold up well under any circumstances. They are also easily cleaned with a garden hose. Just take them down off their hooks, take them outside, and rinse them off. Once they are thoroughly dried, they can be replaced.

One of the greatest features of the match blinds is how easily they are to install. The manufacturer could not have made it simpler. Simply install the two hooks that are included in the package and hang the new blinds from the hooks. It is just that simple. This is why they can be taken down and cleaned so easily.

Prices vary on Matchstick shades made with bamboo but are considered economical purchases. They perform the same or better than conventional shades but the bamboo can lend a warmer atmosphere to any room. Because of the bamboo they are water resistant and can be cleaned in our shower or with a hose outside. Be sure to dry completely before hanging them back up. They can be found at most department stores that sell home furnishings and decorations or you may search online.
