The Party’s Over, Time to Clean Your Carpet

Submitted by admin on March 19, 2011 – 10:05 amNo Comment

The aftermath of a party – particularly a huge, lively one – could very well resemble the ruins of some minor battle, with all the cleaning or even repair you’ll have to face after the final visitor has left the house. As you are making careful evaluation of the scene much like a meticulous general, you’ll often learn that it was your carpet that got the worst injuries of them all!

But as with most battles, the key to victory is to think hard and act fast. So what are you waiting for? Take a fast shower, load up with vitamin C and eat a greasy brunch to fend off that hangover. Here are tips for cleaning up your carpet after a party.

First of all, be vigilant, like a true soldier. Check for cigarette butts that may have fallen on the carpet. This could not only burn the fibers, but if it emits even a small amount of light or heat, may cause fire as well. If you have served a lot of alcohol, prepare for the possibility of finding vomit (!) on your floor. Clean it up A.S.A.P. before things get worse (i.e. someone stepping on it, the baby tasting it, or the odor permeating your home for months to come).

The most glaring proof of merrymaking is likely to be stains and spills on your carpet. Your plan? No procrastination. Once you discover any damp areas clean them up straight away, before they are able to do any additional damage or the stain deepens. Dry them up by blotting with an absorbent cloth or sponge.

A homemade treatment for alcohol, caffeine or tannin (from tea) stains is a mixture of water, white vinegar and gentle dish soap. Others find that adding ammonia to this equation works with darker stains, such as soda spills.

Keep in mind, before you apply any treatment on your carpet, try it out initially in a smaller, unseen or even hard-to-see area before ultimately utilizing it. Additionally, don’t make the blunder of utilizing bleach. This could easily damage the carpet or leave white stains, which almost certainly will be beyond restoration.

In combat, there is an ancient saying: “He with the biggest/most toys wins.” Not surprisingly this too applies when it comes to carpet cleaning. Having the appropriate devices are half the battle versus stains, spills and dirt. A wet vacuum works well with wet or liquid spills, and also messy food residue. Spot removal machines with a carpet cleaning solution help eliminate tougher stains. Even a small spray bottle will come in very useful when focusing on particular areas with cleaning solution.

Finally, the Art of War advises, “Know your weakness.” If after all your hard work, there is still more work to be done. Or if you have admitted to yourself that you can’t face the task all alone. Then it’s time to call for backup. A professional carpet cleaning service will handle all your worries. They will clean up not only your party mess, but also all the accumulated dust and dirt in your carpet. Before you know it, your carpet will be as good as new, and ready for another celebration!
